Homework for the week of 9/6-9/9/16
This week I distributed Grading policy, student information sheet, supplies list, review book ordering information, text books, lab books, lab safety agreement and Lab requirement letters. Students are to return the Lab safety agreement and Lab requirement letter (signed by their parents) to me in addition to the student information sheet. Also, students are to order their review book as soon as possible.
Our topic this week is safety in the world. I have shown two safety videos. Student have read an article on "Death in the Lab". We have discussed many aspects of safety at home, school, lab, work, car, pool, ocean, on the boat, etc.
Homework Club will start 9/23/16; Extra-help will be during the week of 9/19 - date to be determined.
Homework for the week of 9/12-19/16
This week we will be completing a Safety Lab and Review/Summary worksheet.
Students will receive a homework assignment: Construct a Floor Plan due 9/19/16.
Graphing will be introduced and a Graphing Lab and Summary worksheet will be started.
A basic review of Math will be our subsequent topic. We will complete a Math Lab activity and Summary worksheet.
Homework is always: Rewrite Notes in At-Home notebook (see my grading policy handout for information regarding all class requirements/activities).

We are working on Lab #3 - Earth Science Math and You. This Lab is a review of Math skills that are frequently used in this course. After completion of the Lab and the Lab Summary worksheet, I will introduce the topic of Density. Students will complete Density problems.

This week we will be studying the water cycle, porosity, permeability and capillarity. In addition we will be looking at soil development. We will be completing a lab on Long Island Groundwater.
Honors students will be going to the library to begin work on their weekly reading activity.

I will be distributing a learnearthscience.com packet to be completed on the website.
Next Tuesday/Wednesday there will be a test on reference table pages 6, 7 and 16.

This week we are doing a webquest in the library as a review of weathering and erosion. We will be completing Lab #12. Notes will be taken on Erosion and Agents of Erosion, and Deposition. There will be a quiz on Weathering and Erosion on Castlelearning that will open on 12/8, and close on 12/12 at midnight. Please rememeber to complete this quiz.

PLEASE do your castlelearning review quizzes. I have reopened the Geologic History quiz from 1/16 to 1/20 because a lot of students did not complete the assignment.
The midterm review quizzes opened 1/15 and close on 1/23. I will not reopen any that have not been completed. It is due on the 23rd.at midnight.

Spring Ecology:
This week we are taking a baseline test. I will introduce the concepts of Natural Resources and Biodiversity. STudents will complete a packet on the short film "Gorongosa, The Guide". Students will be watching the film, completing the packet, and doing student activities on the HHMI website that correspond to the film.

Spring Ecology: This week we will be doing a discussion activity on the short film "the guide". Students will also be reading articles and answering questions on biodiversity. I will be showing a lecture on Marine Diversity from the HHMI website. Students will be going to the library to find articles on biodiversity.

This week in earth science we will be finishing part 2 of last week's test. We will be doing labs and notes on Plate Tectonics and Dynamic crust. Homework this week is to rewrite notes in the at-home notebook.
Honors Earth Science: All students should have picked their Book for their Reading Project. Guidelines are posted on the library e-board. I will distribute hard copies of the guidelines. All students should have started their reading and recording their chapter summaries. Over the vacation the homework is to read, and work on their project.
The weekly article is on Earthquakes, Volcanoes, Plate Tectonics.

Spring Ecology: Students will be working on an Endangered species brochure in the library. In the classroom we will be working on reading articles and answering questions on current Ecology topics. In addition we will be watching videos on Endangered/Extinct species.

I will be starting the topic: Weather. We will be completing a Station Model and Isotherm Lab this week. Please watch the weather channel or any channel you prefer (news 12 with Rich Hoffman??) students need to pay attention to the weather variables, predictions, and weather maps.
The midterm is March 30 - I will review in class next week. It is a one period test. I have posted addition Review Videos on this site. Just click on the tab. I will be opening Castlelearning quizzes next week as a review for the quarterly as well.
Spring Ecology: This week we will be focusing on Pollution. We will begin the Movie "Civil Action".

Honors Earth Science: READ and work on the project. This week we will be going to the library to work on the Newsletter component of this project. Remember - the last day I will accept the project is April 7. I will take the project anytime before that if it is completed. Students should show the project to me to make sure that they have followed the guidelines.

This week we will be continuing our study of weather, weather variables, fronts, air masses and source
regions.
There will be a Weather Test after the vacation. Date to be announced.
Honors class: The last day the project will be accepted is April 7. Please make sure that you hand your project in to me before that date - if you are not going to be in school on Friday.
Spring Ecology: Quarterly is April 3. This week we will finish watching Civil Action and completing the movie outline worksheet. The new topic is Pollution. We will be taking notes and completing worksheets on the topic. Any student who has not finished their Endangered Species brochure will be allowed to go to the library to complete this project. It is a test grade for the 3rd marking period.

The rest of the week will be spent on topic : Climate. We will be taking notes, reviewing reference tables p. 14 - and 4; and completing Hurricane Lab and Climate Labs.

Homework for the week of May 1 - May 5, 2017
Earth Science: This week we will be completing Global warming lab and then begin the Topic of Seasons and Astronomy. Labs on Global Warming, El Nino, Sun's path and eccentricity of earth's orbits will be completed this week.
Homework is to Outline REVIEW BOOK pages: 116-118; 105-107. These outlines are also to be rewritten into your at-home notebook.
There will be a test next week on Seasons and Rotation/Revolution - May 10.

Spring Ecology: We will be finishing the topic of Pollution; completing a topic review, and reviewing for a topic test on Friday, May 5. Anyone who owes me work must stay after school for Homework Club on Friday. Due to an extreme number of absences in this class, I have a number of students missing work.
Homework for the week of May 8 - 12, 2017
This week I will be testing on Seasons and Rotation and Revolution. I will collect all homework - climate and seasons, rotation/revolution homework. At home notebooks are also due.
The rest of the week will be spent on the topic of Eccentricity. The lab on this topic will also be completed. I will also cover Moon phases, tides and eclipses. Almost finished with Astronomy. Homework is to rewrite any notes I complete on these topics.
Spring Ecology: We will be working on a Nuclear Energy packet in the Library on Monday. The rest of the week we will complete worksheets on alternative energy sources, and conservation of resources - recycling.

We will be completing the Astronomy topic this week and beginning our Lab Practical Review. I will be assigning Reference Table review sheets during the next few weeks, in addition to assigning more Castlelearning review quizzes.
Spring Ecology: This week we will be completing the Nuclear Energy packet in the library. We will then complete our work on recycling and alternate energy sources. The final in the course is 6/1 and 6/5. It is a two day final.
